A quality piece of furniture with hidden compartment is, above all, an exceptional piece of furniture. Whether the compartment opens via RFID card or magnetic pressure does not change the fact that it will occupy your living room, bedroom or study for decades. This is why at Beetle Wood® we always start from the wood — not the mechanism.

The wrong wood is not just an aesthetic problem: it is a structural one. NFC and RFID opening mechanisms maintain their precision tolerances only if the surrounding material remains rigid and stable over time. A cheap particleboard panel deforms with seasonal humidity variations: after 2-3 years the mechanism loses precision. With birch plywood or solid wood, that problem simply does not exist for decades.

European oak: the absolute benchmark

• Density: 720-760 kg/m3 — superior resistance to impact and thermal deformation
• Janka hardness: 1,290 lbf — harder than pine, more workable than ebony
• Pronounced open grain with visible medullary rays — unmatched character
• Absorbs oils and waxes exceptionally well — improves aesthetically with age
• Provenance: 80% of our oak from FSC-certified forests in central Europe

American walnut: the wood of contemporary luxury

• Density: 610-660 kg/m3 — excellent weight-to-strength ratio
• Fine, uniform grain with cloud-like figuring in selected first-grade pieces
• Unique property: American walnut deepens in colour and richness with age
• The naturally dark colour better conceals the opening mechanism lines

European ash: maximum strength, dynamic grain

All Beetle Wood® solid woods are FSC-certified. Formaldehyde emissions comply with European standard E1 (EN 717-1). All finishes use water-based oils and lacquers with no VOC.
